Your address can lead to a permit, no permit, or a required property survey. Read the city rule before buying a drawing.
City-by-city comparison
These summaries cover common residential fences. Verify current property conditions before purchase or construction.
A fence 7 feet or shorter is normally permit-exempt outside flood hazards.
A solid fence on a property line is generally limited to 6 feet unless a listed exception applies.
When a permit applies, show the fence location and height on a plot plan. Add an image or drawing of the fence design.
Round Rock does not require a building permit for a residential fence.
